Back to the Future
4. Nuar
Nuar was an orphan staying at the Allbless Orphan Home in a small corner of New York. He was a very quiet kid right from the start. His mother died while giving birth to him and he was brought to the orphanage when he was 2 years of age. There was something different about him and yet he would be as normal a kid could ever be.
Nuar would never fall ill. That was very strange. His guardians at the orphanage never had to treat him for viral fevers, cold and cough. In fact he never fell ill his entire life. At some nights however, he would complain of having the feeling of burning from inside. The doctors could never trace the slightest of irregularity in him thought. Over the years Nuar learnt to handle the pain, even thought it kept on getting worse year after year. At age 16, he became a guardian to a new baby boy and started taking small responsibilities of managing things at the orphanage. Things were going well until one day he had a visitor. His first visitor and it changed him and his life.Three years later.
On a pleasant day of February 2055, a lady came into the orphanage. The director recognized her immediately and sent for Nuar. She was the lady who had nursed and taken care of Nuar till the age of 2. Nuar quiet clueless of what was happening greeted the new lady.
“Hello Nuar! I am Wendy. I took care of you when you were a little baby. I had very little money, which is why I had to send you to this place.”
“Hello Wendy.”
“Dear, today I am going to tell you something that will change your life.”
“Wow, well I hope it does, life sucks here you know.”
After a good long hour of chatting Wendy stood up. They hugged each other.
“Now you are 19 and fully ready for it. Best of luck my child. I know your mother would want you to do the same thing. She would be so proud of you!”
There was a glow on Nuar’s face, like never seen before. Almost as though he got a new purpose in his life, a reason to live and dream.
“What did Wendy tell you? You have blossomed like a flower since then!” asked the manager.
“Oh sir, you will know of it soon.”
The manager could trust Nuar with his life, but was amazed at the changes in him since Wendy. Nuar was more bold, happy cheerful and yes surely more charming than before. He became talkative and flirty, that could just be because of his age or may be?
Nuar took up a job. He made more friends outside the nieghbourhood and they would often visit the orphanage. Life was getting better by the day.
By the end of May 2055, Nuar completed a task assigned to him by Wendy. Now everyone at the Orphanage barring the very little children below the age of 1 year was one of “them”. Wendy was pleased and so was the Manager.
As they say ‘Always for the greater good’.
